Moscow??

Where did you stay in Moscow?  Apartment, Hotel?  Any suggestions?

    We stayed in an apartment, that was slightly outside the heart of the city. It was so cold in February that even if I were in downtown I'm guessing I would not have gone out all that often. We went out daily but just for a quick romp in the snow or a walk to the grocery store. The apartment was owned by our driver and he charged $100 a night, far less expensive then the Marriott. The Marriott is dreamy, though the price causes nightmares.
    I don't know how long your stay in Moscow will be but ours was eight days. I liked having a kitchen and being able to cook, also a huge savings. I liked that the apartment was slightly larger then an hotel room. It came with free internet and and ability to make free international calls, though I just used skype.
    We got the rental from our driver, but a google search will find you a huge variety and you can even find them close to the city center for under $200 a day.

    We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott (walking distance to Red Square) for 3 of our trips. Rooms are small but they all are in Russia. We used a Marriott rewards VISA and got a bunch of free nights over all our stays. It is also only about 20 min walk to Old Arabat street for great shopping. I loved just walking around there and Red Square.

    The final trip we stayed at the Renaissance Marriott. They have a great FREE breakfast. We took some fruits and yogurts with us for the baby each day. But you have to take a shuttle to Red Square. However, they are across the street from a huge park with walking paths and playgrounds. Great for when you have the baby. They are less expensive than the Courtyard, around $200 a night (and that was in warm May)

    I'm sure apartments are much less expensive, but I'm funny with that stuff. I like to have an English speaking person to go to for help if needed.

    We stayed in both the Marriott Grand and the Marriott Renaissance when in Moscow - like Jeanette, I liked the reassurance of a front desk with English-speaking staff. Both were very nice and the Ren. was cheaper...but Grand was just a short short walk from Red Square and was an amazing hotel.

    We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott with Marriott Points. After apartment living in Krasnoyarsk for 25 days, I was more than ready for a modern English speaking almost have all the comforts of home hotel. We ventured out very little since it was so cold and we had Andrei with us then, but the hotel is very close to the "action". Our driver took us to a grocery store and we bought items to keep in the fridge in the room.

    Check out Peace Travel services (go-russia.com). We stayed at the white house apartment and were very happy with it. It has 2 bedrooms (one without a window so you can sleep a little longer in the morning), 1 full bathroom, 1 half bath, kitchen and living room. It is about a mile from the Kremlin/Red Square, 5 minute walk from Old Arbat St (pedestrian souvenier street) and a grocery store. It is also right around the corner from the US Embassy. There is other apartments on the site also, we were very happy with the service we received. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. Oh most of them are under $200/night.

    WE stayed at the Marriott Tverskaya. . .about a mile up from Red Square. English Speaking staff and an easy walk to Red Square even with a stoller, backpack and all the gear you need! We even walked from there to Arbot for shopping and Starbucks. It's about 4 or 5 blocks up from a TGI Fridays and about 3 blocks up from Il Patio--another good restaurant.

    We stayed at the Marriott Grand. They have a special adoption rate. It's expensive, but we were so comfortable and happy there! Market right next door to pick up anything you need. They even have strollers you can use during your stay.
