Question?

For those who had to go to a Psychiatrist, how did you phrase the initial phone call.  Or how did you even know who to call?  We have to visit one for our new agency, and I am at a loss at how to find this particular one.  I got answers for everything else, just this one is tricky!  Help please!

    First we contacted our insurance to recommend some places. With the agency requirements in hand and the list form the insurance, we just started calling. Many of the offices we called were unable to do one of the tests our agency required...we struggled finding someone who would. Tests ended up costing $750 a person. We still lived in Nebraska at the time our tests were done, so I don't have a contact here.
    What the doc said about me "Overly optimistic with a pollyannaish attitude, which can lead to stomach problems."

    Ours is scheduled for next week, but our agency gave a list that other parents had used, however the Texas contact they gave was outrageously priced at $1200 PER PERSON! I googled psychologist in my area and just started calling. The few I actually got ahold of did not perform the MMPI2 but were able to refer me to someone they knew did. I was able to find three near my house that would do it for much much cheaper and we are paying $250 per person now. It wasnt hard just a lot of phone chasing. Good luck!

    We are in CT and our local social worker gave us the name of a psych who gave it to us for 250 each. Keep calling as the posters above did. You do not need to pay that much. It is an interview for about an hour and then a test like the sat. The questions were obvious to me. Example I like to set things on fire a sometimes b often c never or people are out to get me. Not hard at all.

    I had to do one for my court dossier. There is a woman in NY (Dr Joyce Busch - I think it's Joyce) - and she'll do them over the phone. If your agency is ok with that -- it was maybe $500 total including notartizing/state seals and sending to you. VERY handy1!
