Not really sure who still reads this blog, but I have lost my desire to blog anymore. As we get busier with the kids schedules, sitting and writing about it just seems to take a back seat anymore. I am not shutting the blog down, but unless something major happens in our live, I probably won't be updating anymore. I will leave it open for people who are in the adoption process, and who knows maybe one day Russia will open back up and it will be a helping tool for some family. So for those of you who still read, and I "know" who you are, friend me on FB, under Denise Boothe Denson. I must "know" you from the blogging world, before I will add you, but you will see my adorable kids there. If you are a random reader though, please don't be offended if I don't add you. Just to protect my kids and our somewhat privacy.Randy, Denise, Camden and Dasha Densonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15166800390054077734noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57643337199277284.post-75888404227702933352013-06-21T11:11:00.000-05:002013-06-21T11:11:42.142-05:00The Trip from H*E*Double Hockey SticksIf you really know me, you know that I don't swear, never have, just don't think it is an attractive feature to hear people talk in that way. So this trip really had to be bad to make me even THINK about using that word!

We went to Salt Lake City, Yellowstone National Park, and Grand Teton National Park. On June 5th, Randy's B-Day, the kids and I loaded up Randy's mom's car, she dropped it off the week earlier on her move out to Utah, and we headed out on the two day journey to Utah. Randy was flying later in the week as he had to work. The kids were rock stars they endured 2 9+ hour days in a TINY little car but we made it! :-) As we arrived we had been warned about my Brother-In-Laws psycho dog by my M-I-L, but she tends to exaggerate so I wanted to see with my own eyes. Well this dog is the most psychotic dog I have ever seen in my life. I could never live with a dog that crazy. He bit the kids, knocked them down, he eats everything in sight, shoes, toys, etc. I really couldn't believe how insane this dog was. We managed to survive the next 48 hours until we left on Saturday to go get our RV. We sent the kids ahead with Randy's sister and we went down to pick up our RV from the guy we were renting from and would meet them at the first stop. We get the RV and start heading north.

Right as we are about to cross the Idaho border there was about 10 miles of construction with the large orange barrels. We're driving and these barrels were all over our lane of traffic. I see one coming up that is most definitely in our lane and yell, "Randy your going to HIT......BOOOOOM! Yep we hit it with the side of the RV. In his defense, it was 4 feet into our lane, and a very small shoulder, and a wide RV. We pull over as soon as we can. Damage done was the clips that hold the front of the awning on were broken and the steps that you use to get in the side door of the RV were demolished. I was about ready to cry. We had no tools, no rope, nothing as we were on our own. So Randy used the straps from our suitcases to hold the stair up and the shoulder strap from our camera bag to keep the awning secure.

We arrive at our first stop, and with the help of Randy's sister and her husband we get the awning secure, and the step removed. Now it is Saturday night, and all RV stores are closed on Sunday. We knew we were tough out of luck. We started scouring the Internet for replacement parts. The prices were not pretty. We decided to just sleep on it and try again in the morning.

Sunday we finished heading north to Yellowstone. Now we are simple campers, we like being in the parks, not Randy's brother and sister, they like full hook-ups. So we stayed outside the park at a <strike>"resort</strike>" RV park, that was chock full of mosquito's. Dasha is a mosquito magnet. She had on a bug band, and spray and she was still getting bit. No Bueno....We had a great time in Yellowstone, and in the mean time found a step for the RV and had it shipped to our campsite in the Tetons.

Wednesday we headed down to the Tetons, again staying out of the park at another RV Park, got out step and was able to replace it and found some replacement parts for the awning. There had been some family drama also, but that is to be expected from putting 4 different families together for that long period of a time. :-) We finished out our time and started heading down back to Salt Lake City. We stopped at Bear Lake where the mosquito's were so thick that they flew in your mouth, it was HORRIBLE!!!!! Needless to say Dasha is one big lumpy mosquito bite by now. Randy and I got up early the last morning and headed back to his brothers house to get the RV ready to give back to the owner. As we were bringing in the slides the slide broke. My heart really sank, that is NOT GOOD!!!

By this time I am swearing off camping ever again, especially in someone else's stuff. We get back to Randy's brothers house and have to deal with the crazy psycho dog again, praise the Lord he stayed with a dog sitter while we were camping. Randy fixes the awning and decided to see if he can fix the slide and luckily all that happened is a bolt broke. It was a fairly easy fix. He finally returns it and I think finally, it is over. Randy flies home that night and the kids and I fly home on Monday night.

Well I woke up in the middle of the night Sunday night sicker than a dog, I will spare you the details but I thought momentarily that death might be better than what I was experiencing. I somehow was making it through the day on Monday just praying for our flight so we could get home, and about an hour and a half before we leave for our flight, Camden says, Mom, my tummy hurts. Then it all comes out.....

He proceeds to vomit every 10 minutes, for the next hour. I called the airline to see if we can change our flights, sure, for $300 per person, nope, not an option, off to the airport we go. I am in the back holding Camden, a bowl and catching puke, while trying to not puke myself. We get to the airport, I ask for a wheelchair, curb side service, everything I can get. As we are going through security, Camden has his head in a Wal-Mart bag puking. I felt so bad for him....I was able to get a wheelchair for him at all the airports as we had to change planes in Denver. We get on the first plane, and he pukes before we take off, I laid him on my lap and tried to get him to go to sleep. He slept for 15 minutes and woke up puking. We got to be first name basis with the stewardess after that....

We got off in Denver, and a nice lady helped me as I had Camden in a wheel chair, Dasha, a car seat and three backpacks. She delivered us to our next plane and said, "Good Luck." We had one more hour and ten minute flight. As we were pre-boarding the lady at the ticket booth, looked at Camden with his barf bag, and said that he wasn't fit to fly. I about lost it. I told her we were going on the flight whether she liked it or not. She took one look at my wild crazy hair and eyes and ghostly appearance, as I was very sick also and said ok, just hide the barf bag.

We got on the last flight Camden got sick one more time right as we were taking off and then fell asleep for the rest of the flight thank goodness. We even got in early which was nice, but Randy wasn't there yet, and no one was helping me, so I put both kids in the wheelchair, and hung all the backpacks on the back and somehow steered the wheelchair and carried the car seat at the same time. Got to baggage claim, got our bags right as Randy was pulling in.

That was Monday, it is now Friday, I am better, Camden is still not. It appears that there is a Noro virus outbreak going on in Yellowstone and Tetons right now, so pretty sure that is what we got. He is slowly getting better, but I can't wait until my little man is back to normal. Unfortunately my last trip to Yellowstone and Tetons also was a disaster, so maybe I just need to avoid those parks from now on! Sorry for the long novel, just had to get it out!Randy, Denise, Camden and Dasha Densonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15166800390054077734noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57643337199277284.post-25169002740209163952013-05-24T22:22:00.000-05:002013-05-24T22:22:00.720-05:00Spring Program and Pre-School GraduationLast week was the Spring program at pre-school and the Pre-School Graduation. My little man is heading off to Kindergarten and Dasha is moving up to Ms. Jenny's class! I am really excited about Dasha being in Ms. Jenny's class, as I really think Ms. Jenny will really challenge Dasha. She is extremely smart, but can be very manipulative. Her previous teacher and I had to have several conversations basically on the stuff that I found out that she was getting away with, but the teacher was giving her a pass because of her background. While some things were okay, most were not. She will be attending the extended day session as Camden will still be in the same building just on the grade school side, and I only want to drive up there two times a day, not 4! So Dasha will go to school on T/R from 8-3:30.

On to the program and graduation. They both did SOOOOO good! Dasha knew all her moves, and sang some of the words, and Camden was so proud in his cap and gown. Sorry about all the red eyes, our distance from the kids, and the lighting in the room, it just didn't work out too well even with the red eye reduction.
I am really trying to stay on top of things, but between school, the kids, and remodeling out house, by the end of the day I am just too tired to do anything, let alone try and come up with stuff to write. Hopefully this summer will be better. I am taking the summer off of classes. But we are leaving for two weeks and going to the Tetons and Yellowstone. Should be a blast. Here are the kids' spring pics from school. Can't believe Camden is going to Kindergarten next year!

Randy, Denise, Camden and Dasha Densonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15166800390054077734noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57643337199277284.post-51913876977459753582013-03-21T20:16:00.001-05:002013-03-21T20:16:17.731-05:00TonsilsI forgot to write about this. A week after we got back from our cruise in February Camden had his tonsils and adenoids removed. Knowing that Camden was going to be very clingy for a few days, my mom volunteered to take Dasha for a long 4 day weekend. So on Thursday I met my mom half way and delivered one very excited girl to my mom and one sad boy that wanted to go to grandmas also got to come home with me.

Camden never had a serious issue with strep, had it once or twice, but he had a bad issue with snoring and in the winter he would get a cough that would never go away. He would cough so hard in his sleep that he would gag and throw up in his bed. Finally after three nights in a row, I put the question out on Facebook, love that place, to see if my friends thought an ENT would even see him without a history of strep. They all told me to try so I called and made the appt. and we went in and I explained my concern. She really emphasised the history of strep, and I was preparing myself for a let down, but then she started talking about snoring. Little kids are not supposed to snore, and mostly likely lead to sleep apnea issues later on. Then she looked in his mouth. She gasped and asked how he eats as his tonsils touch each other! Needless to say we got our surgery.

So Friday Camden had his procedure, he got to pick out what flavor of anesthesia he got to smell and got to drive a jeep back to surgery. The ENT came out after about 15 minutes and she was done. He did good and they were waking him up and we would get to go back as soon as he was awake. When we went back he was so sad and upset, it made me cry he was so upset. They made us hang out for about 2 hours and then we got to leave. There is one thing very unusual that Camden hates and it is band-aids. Well when they took out the I.V. they had it taped on, oh he was MAD when they finally got the I.V. out. We carried him out to the car and took him home to snuggle for the rest of the day. He really did very well.

Now one thing that they tell you is that they will have some bad breathe as their throats heal. Well bad breathe does not even come close to describing what this smell was. It was the smell of death, coming out of my 4 year olds mouth! And he wanted to sit right against us ALL THE TIME. It was enough to make me gag the smell was so bad. I did everything I could possibly do, I gave him tic tacs, I brushed his teeth 3 times a day, I let him chew gum. Nothing, Nada, Nyet. It was rancid. I resorted to most of the time to siting with my hand over my nose most of the time to try and block some of the smell.

After 4 days we went to get Dasha and she was ready to come home. I think she is well attached! She was ready to come home and I was ready for her to come home. :-) Camden finally started acting normal about 7 days post surgery. Hoping Dasha's hernia surgery goes just as well or better than Camdens'!Randy, Denise, Camden and Dasha Densonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15166800390054077734noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57643337199277284.post-86254719676724614322013-03-12T20:19:00.001-05:002013-03-12T20:20:45.354-05:00Snowmagadden 2013I have mentioned before that we have been in a terrible drought the past few years. Last year we got 3.9 inches of snow. This year we had been doing better than last year, we were up to 5.9 inches! ;-) Impressive right?!? So the weathermen started talking about this HUGE storm that was coming our way and we were in for a lot of snow. Now we were nearing the end of February and it just isn't normal to get a lot of snow that late, so I was expecting a few inches of snow. Well we got hammered. At our house we got 12+ inches on Wednesday night into Thursday on the 20th of February. That is pretty good right. Well then they said we were going to get another round on Monday night into Tuesday. I was done after the 12 inches. Well we got hit again with another 12 inches of snow. The second snow was a wet heavy snow, the kind that breaks trees, and power lines. When we got up that morning I even told Randy, "hey we still have power so we are good!" There was so much snow it was crazy, the dog didn't know what to do as she couldn't even squat to potty as the snow came up past her stomach!

I had bought donuts the day before because I knew we would be snowed in and we were sitting on the couch getting snuggled in to watch a movie and Poof, the power went. Randy and I looked at each other and we knew we were in for a LONG day! We reported the outage and cuddled up to stay warm. About 15 minutes later I hear a zinging in the back yard so I got up to go see what was going on and this is what I saw!!!

Our backyard was on fire. I called 911 and the firetruck came out. They checked everything, and put in another request to BPU, and since the trees weren't on fire they couldn't do anything as you can't put water on live electric lines. The line quits arcing and we hunkered down again. About an hour later the line started again and our neighbor called 911. Not us, we were watching but knew they couldn't do anything. So the fire truck came again! They went next door and told them to not call again unless something was actually on fire. Put in another request to BPU from the fire dept. We lost power at 8:30 that morning. By 4:30 the house was down to 59 degrees and the kids were COLD! We were also. :-) So we booked a hotel room. We left hoping the house would still be standing when we got back the next morning and we would have power!

We had a fun time at the hotel, had dinner, went swimming etc. The next morning we still didn't have power but Randy had to go to work so the kids and I were at the house and it was down to 53 degrees! We lasted two hours and then I called a friend and asked if we could hang with them until the power was back on. Power was finally restored at 6:30 that night! 34 hours later.

The next day we finally got to go out and play in snow and Randy built the kids a fort and they made their first snowman! I tell you what, I never want to go that long without power again. Yes I know we are spoiled, and I am okay with that!
Randy, Denise, Camden and Dasha Densonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15166800390054077734noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57643337199277284.post-46796428611957924852013-03-08T14:23:00.001-06:002013-03-08T14:23:23.334-06:0018 month planYes, we are planners! We have been contemplating this for a LONG time, but we have always put it off saying next year, next year. Well now we have a plan. I don't know if I have ever mentioned this but, Randy bought our house when he was single, and he also bought in the height of the market. While I have never been a fan of the house, it is a good house, I am just not a fan of DIY. The other major negative of our house is the local school district. It is HORRIBLE!!! Not only are their scores in the tank, the environment is not one I want my children to be in. As Camden will be entering Kindergarten next year, we knew that he would not be going to public school. We found a great private school and he has been accepted for Kindy. Last night we were going over the numbers. With just Camden it is feasible. When we add Dasha 2 years later, it becomes a lot harder to manage.

The hard part of this plan is like when I mentioned above, Randy bought in the height of the market. There were some bad loan terms and we refinanced when we got married. We rolled the closing costs into the loan, which raised the mortgage on the house, etc. As we all know it takes FOREVER to make a dent in a mortgage. Then the market crash happened. Houses started foreclosing all around us and we lost about $50,000 in our home value. Plus we were saving for a $50,000 adoption. So for the next 5 years we trudged along. Then we were finally able to refinance through HARP 2.0 last year. We lowered our interest rate by almost 2% and for the last year we have been able to pay extra on our house, we are making a dent now. But it takes a long time for home values to rise and to pay down a mortgage to close that $50,000 gap. So the plan, in 18 months, we are putting the house on the market with a hopeful timeline that it will take 6 months for it to sell. We hope that by that time, the home remodel will be done, we will have paid down enough of the principle that we will only need to write a small check for closing costs and Realtor fees, and we plan on renting out in our desired school district. We are limited by our school districts as Randy has to live in the county for his job. There are only 4 districts in the county and only 1 is actually a school district worth sending your kids to. So that is the plan. We will hopefully have the house sold by the time Camden is done with 1st grade, and both he and Dasha can enter public school when he is in 2nd grade and she is in Kindergarten.

So that is the plan, here's to making it all work out!Randy, Denise, Camden and Dasha Densonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15166800390054077734noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57643337199277284.post-44668673562014047092013-03-01T14:16:00.000-06:002013-03-01T14:18:29.010-06:00Wow, where do I begin?!?Okay I will start with the good. We went on a Disney cruise Feb. 5-9th out of Galveston, TX. We drove down to Galveston from KC and we had a BLAST!!! The drive up and down was long but was not horrible. The day we were supposed to board the boat there was a TON of fog and the boat was stuck out in the harbor. It was supposed to be in port at 7 a.m. but did not arrive until 10:30. We were supposed to board at 11. Definitely didn't happen. Though I did record Mickey calling the kids to tell them we were going on a Disney cruise. You can view it here. Well we finally boarded about 2:30 and we had some hungry kids and adults! We quickly went to eat and then went up for the sail away party and off we went. The kids had a blast in the kids club and even got to dance on stage of the Walt Disney Theatre with Mickey and Minnie. I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story.
Yesterday was the 3 year anniversary of our blog starting. 3 years ago we started on this crazy life altering journey. In the last 3 years we have scrimped and saved, fund raised, traveled to the other side of the world twice, and brought home a beautiful little girl. Just to top it off we added a 50 lb dog also!
We have been through a lot, even survived a troll, but we are improving every day.

Yesterday I also interviewed for a Radiology Tech. Program and I think it went very well. Next week we leave for our Disney Cruise. When we get back, I will get back to blogging. I promise.Randy, Denise, Camden and Dasha Densonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15166800390054077734noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57643337199277284.post-5102697451990628702013-01-16T15:40:00.000-06:002013-01-16T15:40:51.205-06:00Dear TrollYes, I am talking to you Ms./Mr. Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I know a little bit about computers and you may not of noticed that I installed a live traffic feeder on the side of my blog that shows the location of every visitor. I have heard about you for quite some time and now that I have been trolled guess what, I am still pro-Russian adoption. I am still pro-Putin is an idiot. Just because you leave mean nasty comments is not going to change my heart or my opinions. It just makes me sad for you that you feel that you need to "troll" people's blogs and try to hurt them. I don't know what ever happened to you to cause you to feel you need to be mean and nasty but it seriously needs to stop.

There are lots of stories out there about you, that you adopted a Russian child, that your child is severely ill, I honestly don't know. BUT just know I will pray for you, because as a Christ-follower that is my job. I pray for lots of people I don't care for or like. You are one of them. Just know that every nasty comment immediately goes to my email and I can delete the comment in about 60 seconds. So no one is going to read your nastiness. Have a great day.Randy, Denise, Camden and Dasha Densonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15166800390054077734noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57643337199277284.post-24697051471086308602012-12-29T10:08:00.000-06:002012-12-30T08:06:50.473-06:00Russian BanYesterday Putin signed a bill banning American families from adopting Russian children. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Over the last 20 years over 60,000 children have been adopted from Russia and have had new lives here in America. Of those 60,000 19 have died in the custody of American parents. When the U.S. signed a new law last week blacklisting certain high ranking officials from doing business and owning property and bank accounts in the U.S. if they are believed to be violating human rights. In retaliation the Russian government struck back and are not punishing the U.S. government, they are hurting their own children and American families. They claim that the U.S. is not a safe place for their children because of the 19 deaths mention before. While it is 19 too many, there were 59,981 successful adoptions with no problems in over 20 years.

In my new crusade to be more forward I contacted the news media about doing a story about the ban, with NO intention of being interviewed, but when they asked, I said yes, literally threw all the junk and clutter in my dining room and prayed that they would NOT look in that room. As I have said we have been slowly remodeling our house and we only have two rooms left, but I still get pretty embarrassed by those two rooms! They are hideous. But here are the links for the story, if you would like to watch.

http://fox4kc.com/2012/12/28/russian-ban-on-american-adoptions-angers-kck-mom/

I like how they titled it! It ANGERS me! :-) Oh, and I said that one day we would LIKE to go back and adopt, but they made it seems like we were going tomorrow.

In all seriousness though, they are only hurting the children, As I mentioned in the interview, Dasha would not of been adopted in Russia. Simple as that, she would of aged out at 16 and I can only imagine the horrors of how her life would be after that.....Randy, Denise, Camden and Dasha Densonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15166800390054077734noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57643337199277284.post-50854521373430807782012-12-23T22:30:00.000-06:002012-12-23T22:30:48.310-06:00Christmas ProgramFriday Dec. 14th was the kids first Christmas program at their preschool. Camden didn't get to do his program last year because we were in Russia at the time. Camden, who has been thriving this year, got to be a wise man in their play. He actually got a big part because he got to travel across the church. I totally admire his teachers because the put together a play with over 40 4-5 year olds, complete with parents making costumes. Since I don't have a creative bone in my body, I ordered Camden's costume off of Amazon!!!

Dasha's class also got up there and performed the fastest 3 songs I have ever seen! It was one of those blink and you miss it type of things, but hey they are 2 year olds. The little girl next to her blew zerberts the whole time! Dasha was most definitely the cutest one up there with the best dress!
We landed in D.C. one year ago and Dasha became a legal citizen. In some ways the year has flown by so stinking fast that I can't believe we have been home an entire year, and in other ways it has been an incredibly long and trying year. I have never fully come out and said it on the blog, but I have hinted at it, and I am very public about it in person, but after we came home I did indeed suffer from P.A.D. (Post Adoption Depression). The lack of sleep, not being able to eat, a husband who had to go back to working 90 hours a week 2 days after being home, and bring home a child who hated my guts was one of the most difficult things I ever had to do.

I thought I would of had the support of my adoption life group when I got home. There were 3 of us who all brought home kids within 1 month of each other, and it was determined to not undermine the attachment process, the women would meet one week, and the men would meet the next week. I was told that I could NOT bring my kids on the woman's week, but that it would be detrimental to Dasha if I hired a babysitter so I could attend. I got no help from the group that I desperately needed at that time. Not many people's husbands work 24 hour shifts, it is a unique situation. My sister and I were on the outs, and though I love my parents to death they didn't understand adopting a child.

I was all alone, crying at every moment that my kids weren't around, and praying for help. I decided to email the only person that knew what I was going through. She may not know it but she helped me more than I could ever imagine. Those emails back and forth were my saving grace from someone who had "been there, done that." I also called some my close friends from back in college who also are the TRUE friends that everyone wishes for. The ones that even though you haven't talked to in years, they will drop everything for you.

Over the months things really started to improve, Dasha and I definitely formed a bond, and are nicely attached now, and I truly can't even picture our loves without her anymore. I know she was meant to be in our family. We defiantly have our moments, but what parent/child relationship doesn't. Please don't let my experience deter you from adoption, if it helps, I also went through the baby blues after Camden was born, so for me MAJOR life changes affect me pretty significantly. But I made it through it. I also have made changes in my life. I don't wait for people to include me, I seek out my friends, I plan stuff, something that is HUGE for me. I am a very shy person, and I don't have a lot of self confidence. I am trying to stay positive and I have even started making strides to improve my relationship with my sister.

I also know that without God, and my special email friend, I really don't know where I would be without them.
It is family day! One year ago today we busted Dasha out of the orphanage, went to the hotel for about 30 minutes, and then caught the train. We were not able to share our initial post until the 15th because of our schedule, but the 14th is Family Day. My how she has changed in the past year. Below I posted a photo of Dasha in the same dress, on the same day exactly 1 year apart. I think she has grown just a little bit!
There are only 2 more. Don't worry I won't do this every year, just the first year as I feel we all celebrate the first year of a child's life a little more than other birthdays. I have never met anyone who didn't throw their 1 year old a huge party to celebrate that feat, since we don't get the 1st birthday, we get the first year together.
Well our anniversary today is DA day. On Dec. 2nd 2011 the judge came back and literally said "DA!" We were officially a family of 4. It was a bittersweet day for me. I was happy because we had been granted the custody of a beautiful little girl, and it was sad that our fun family of 3 was no more. I would not change it for anything though. We have definitely had our ups and downs, but we are on a steady uphill track.
Pros for domestic, cheaper, maybe even free, and helping a "local" child. Cons: Open adoption, years of court trying to get parental rights terminated, and risk of a judge overturning the adoption later on. Yes it has happened.

Pros of International adoption: Child is AVAILABLE at that moment for adoption, child is living in an institution and the want these children to be adopted. No bio parents or family to come back later wanting their child back. Cons: cost.

In the end after a lot of prayer, we decided International. My husband is a fireman, I am a stay-at-home mom, we are not millionaires. But we knew we could do it. By the way, half of the cost of International Adoption is the travel.

When we were in process we got comments of, "Buy American." That just really stung because why do people think that one child deserves to be adopted over another child just because of citizenship? Well, we finished and in total our costs were just under $50,000. The government offers a tax credit in the year that we completed the adoption of $13,170. Seems like a lot of money yes? Well after spend $50,000, it was an answered prayer to restore our savings. Unlike the rest of America we buy what we can afford, we spend money that we have. We do not play the credit game.

Well after this year the adoption tax credit ends for families and is reduced to $6000 and only applies to families who adopt "special needs" children. That means that most families will not qualify anymore for the tax credit. And just so you know, Domestic Infant Adoption runs on average $25,000. I have petitioned my congressman and senator to extend the tax credit for future families. Today someone shared a page on Facebook for the Save the Adoption Tax Credit I went over to look at it. I was reading some of the comments and I was truly appalled. One poster posted a PowerPoint that people who adopt internationally should NOT receive any tax credit because we are ELITE people who do not need the finances back. And that we are "purchasing" a child. I finally lost it and responded to them. I was firm but not offensive. In my opinion. It just makes me so angry that people who feel that children in orphanages deserve less because they are not American Citizens yet. In this power point also it showed children who have been killed by their American adopted parents. Guess what, it happens to "American" children who are adopted also. It infuriates me that people can be so narrow minded. I know that people are not going to change just because they get called out, but I hope that before you think less of a parent who has adopted internationally, I hope you watch this video of A LOT of Russia-born babies, who are now ALL American Citizens and are going to do AMAZING THINGS!

Yes, we are sailing on the Disney Magic on Feb. 5th for a 4 night cruise out of Galveston, TX! I am so excited for all of us! None of us have been on a cruise and just know that we ALL are going to have a wonderful time.

The not so fun part is we are driving to Galveston. That would be 12 hours in the car, in 1 day... Yes we are a glutton for punishment! We were able to score a super slick deal on a cruise, about $1000 less than a normal cruise with them, so we decided that the kids could miss a week of school to go on this little excursion. I have a friend who used to work for Disney on the Magic and she still has a lot of friends on the ship and she said she is going to get us the "hook-up"! Her words. Not sure what that means, but her information has been invaluable as to what floors to stay on, the tipping schedule, what characters are going to be on board, and lots of other info. I think the kids are going to be so excited that they will just run like crazy for 4 days straight. We are not revealing to them yet as they have NO concept of time, but we sail in 70 days!

In other news Thanksgiving went well. We only had two days and we actually went down to Arkansas to my parents soon to be home on Saturday, walked in just in time for the feast, and then had to come home on Sunday. The life of a family where daddy works a TON!

Since we will be making a port call in Mexico I did HAVE to go apply for Dasha's passport today! So I am glad that it is finally done and I don't have to do anymore paperwork for a long time. Post-Placement #2 is on it's way to Russia and we don't have to mess with that for an entire year! The kids are gearing up for Christmas and I finished Christmas shopping today! So glad that that is finally done.

I hope everyone had an incredible holiday and as the Christmas season comes up I pray you all have a wonderful holiday season celebrating the reason for the season.
When Randy and I got married in March, I knew that Randy had some debt, but as young(er) people who were just so happy to find each other, we really never discussed the #'s. 2 weeks after our wedding, and home from our honeymoon I went out to get the mail and Randy was at the fire station that day. There was a bill from his student loan, and so I took the liberty as his new wife to open said bill and pay the bill. Well when I opened the bill I started crying. I have never had student loans from college or my masters, and I didn't have CC debt either. I immediately called Randy and was crying as I asked if the #'s were real. He was so sad and said yes. After much back and forth, we decided that the next day we were going to sit down and map out a plan, because I was NOT going to have Sallie Mae make herself comfortable in our home. She was getting kicked out ASAP. There were 3 different debts that we had to tackle, 1 was a lowly CC, which we paid off that day with a CD that I had, the second was his car, and then Sallie Mae.

We got on a plan, we followed Dave's Plan, $1000 in the bank for emergencies, and then starting hitting the debt. Now even Dave says that when you start doing things right, Murphy's Law will hit and hit you hard. Well he did. Pretty much right after getting married, I got pregnant, and while I was so excited, we were both scared. Things were trucking along smoothly and we had eliminated about half the debt in a year, refinanced the house, and we JUST paid off his car. The only thing left was Sallie Mae. Then we had an ice storm. I had a dentist appt. that morning and school was canceled, well I decided to go anyway. Bad idea. I was hit from behind and my car was totalled. Being pregnant I called Randy to come and get me and he got hit when he was about 250 yards away from me, his car was totalled also. Our insurance adjuster had been in the business for 25 years and had never run across that scenario EVER! So we are out 2 cars, we didn't even have the cleared title for Randy's car yet. We were able to purchase a car from my parents with our insurance money, and Randy was given an almost 20 year old truck that leaked oil like a sieve to get us through.

We started going some more, and we were 3 weeks from Camden arriving and it was June and it was hot, and our air conditioner decided that it was done. Well because of new EPA regulations, we not only had to do the air conditioner, but also the heater also. $6000 for both, I was a hot mess literally and figuratively! That done, we still were not completely done with our debt, but I had already left my job, but I was due to get my last 3 paychecks the day after Camden was scheduled to arrive. That was suppose to finish off Sallie Mae, but instead it went to the A/C.

Now we were down to one income, a new baby, but we were happy and in love. Randy went and got a part time job and we were able to finally kick Sallie Mae out 4 months later. In total we paid off $62,000 in 18 months, plus we cashflowed Randy being in Nursing school the last 6 months of that also. Yes we did have a good income for the first 14 months, but we had A LOT thrown at us and we still prevailed. ANYONE can do it, single parents, married couples, widowed, anyone. You just have to have the drive to do it. We even had the opportunity to call into Dave Ramsey's show and scream that we were DEBT FREE with the exception of the house. Because of this we have been able to live comfortably but frugally on one income. We were scared when we decided to adopt because we didn't want to borrow money, but only had to borrow $5000 of the $50000 that we had to have, and paid that off within 2 months of being home with Dasha. Now we are actively paying off our house, we replaced the old truck, and we live a comfortable life. Just remember that car payments are NOT the norm, you don't have to have them, save your money and go pay CASH, it is amazing the deals you can get when you whip out $100's instead of a CC. My husband is the King of bargaining. :-)

This is by no means to be a bragging post, just to share the lessons that we learned and hope to pass on to someone else. Imagine the difference you can make if you have NO payments, no car payments, no CC payments, and even more importantly no house payment. I know many people have made a HUGE difference in our lives because they live by the same principles as we do. Boy I must of been very tired because it was so random and sporadic! We have lots of anniversaries coming up very fast. Today is our Metcha Anniversary. We had been traveling for about 48 hours and SOOO tired. We had an hour and 15 minutes to take a much needed shower and eat some interesting eggs and ham, but it didn't matter because we were so hungry. We loaded up in the <strike>death trap</strike> van and headed out to the orphanage. I feel very blessed that we did not have to spend hours in car traveling like many people have our orphanage was in the city limits and very close to our hotel. We went to the play room and in came our little girl. The rest as they say is history. I have posted some video also because I really haven't shared a lot of video that we took, but just shows how timid Dasha was.
This was Dasha's first Halloween and boy did she have a great time. She really got into the whole trick-or-treating. She was a perfect little Dorothy. Our little girl clicked her heels 3 times and she was transported from Russia to Kansas! Camden was a doctor again, his costume still fit and he was excited about the doctor bit again. Next year we will get a new costume!

It seems like it is never going to end! But we are so close, only 1 more after this one!!!! We went in and I knew it would cause major confusion so I brought the shot schedule that her Pediatrician gave me when we set up her schedule. We were called back and when I told the nurse what I was there for, she was very confused since Dasha is 2.5 years and with their normal schedule she should of been done at 2. I then told the nurse what shots she needed and handed over her immunization card. She gave me a look and said, "Well we'll see." and took the card and left.

About 5 minutes later she came back with another nurse and she actually looked at Dasha's file and said, OHHH, IA, shot catch up! What shots do you need?" I pulled out the paper and showed it to her, and they checked to make sure we were good, and then they went to get the shots.

Dasha did as well as she possibly could when someone is jabbing something sharp in your skin. She cried of course, and when she was done I was holding her trying to calm her down and they asked her if she wanted a sucker. She cried, YESSSS! They gave her the big tootsie roll sucker, not just a little dum dum sucker like I would of liked! :-) She got her band-aids and she was good!

Off the gymnastics then where she proudly displayed her band-aids to the other kids who ooohed and aaahed!

On another note, last week we were walking the dog, and I stepped in a hole wrong and bit it big time on the the driveway and buggered my knee up pretty good. Well we are having an Indian Summer right now, 82 degrees as we speak, and I put on some shorts last night, I usually wear capris, and Dasha saw my knee and she was patting my knee, saying, "sorry, mama, boo-boo bad." Then she would try to kiss my knee, which I would NOT let her do, ewwww! She is very empathetic!

She can now independently count to 5 and 10 with some help, and can identify red and green, can draw a circle on demand. Plus her language is taking off! She is doing so well.

Sorry if you want to make a comment but I had to turn the "you are not a robot" captia again as I have been getting a lot of spam, not trolls, but just spam.Randy, Denise, Camden and Dasha Densonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15166800390054077734noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57643337199277284.post-46876183486900378632012-10-12T20:54:00.001-05:002012-10-12T20:54:34.554-05:00One year agoYes, we are finally to the point where we are making it to the Anniversaries of the past year. We are quickly coming up to our 1 year anniversary of bringing Dasha home. It has been a tough year, full of transitions and trials on everyone's parts, but it also has been a good year. She fits in with us as if she was born here.

So, the first of our anniversaries. I had dropped Camden off at school and came home to take a nap because I had a wicked sinus headache that wouldn't go away and the phone kept ringing!!! Now if you are ever around me you know that my phone hardly EVER rings! I am just not a phone person. I don't like talking on the phone at all. I perfer to just text, yes I know this makes me anti-social, I just am not much of a talker.

After the 3rd phone call I thought about turning my phone off but decided against it in case Camden's school needed to get a hold of me. Well I was just drifting off and the phone rang AGAIN! I was super annoyed and rolled over to see who it was, it was the Adoption Agency! I answered excitedly and it was what I expect. We got Dasha's referral! After 30 minutes on the phone, I was almost in tears, and I had this picture.

I quickly hung up with the agency and called Randy, and sent him all the info. We had some questions but sent it off the the IA doc. Two weeks later we accepted her referral officially! That was the longest 2 weeks ever, we didn't tell anyone that we got a referral, so it was killing me! Then the official whirlwind began. More later as we celebrate more anniversaries.
I apologize for any typos, blogger is having issues with Spell check.Randy, Denise, Camden and Dasha Densonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15166800390054077734noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57643337199277284.post-34654893538654621012012-10-03T23:00:00.002-05:002012-10-04T20:03:32.916-05:00Oncology Visit #33 down, 1 more to go! We then will have met our requirement for future issues should anything arise. This appt. got moved and it was not at the most ideal time, 12:45 so no food or water after 8 a.m. At 10 sharp she was begging for a snack! I love having my kids on a schedule, but sometimes it kicks me in the hiney because of it. I got her distracted by taking her out to mow with me, yes I know it is not the safest thing to have her ride the mower with me, but if I don't she stands and screams and cries because she is afraid of it, but if she rides it with me she is fine. Go figure!!!

We show up at Children's at 12:15 and get checked into Radiology, and at 12:45 sharp they call us back and they have a student who is doing her clinical there doing the ultrasound. From our last few experiences I thought well Dasha was going to give her a "training" on difficult kids! Other than protesting a little at first Dasha was a PERFECT little angel. She laid perfectly still for the entire 30 minute ultrasound. We then went and had a chest x-ray and then finally lunch!

After lunch we had 30 minutes before her oncology appt. so we went to the car and I let her watch a movie since she had been so good. She is really addicted to movies now I have to be really careful on how much I have the T.V. on. I usually like it on for background noise, but she gets sucked in.

We then went to see her oncologist and we had to do two potty samples because the first one wasn't as clean as they would of liked, downfall of a 2 year old who likes to wipe herself. Miss Independent. They then put on the numbing cream on her arms so they can get blood later, and we waited for Dr. Shore. He came in and it was good news as always, he LOVES Dasha, he always takes her and shows her off to the nurses and takes her to the prize box, they normally don't get healthy kids in Oncology. Then came what I thought would be the worst part of the day, the blood draw. Well the numbing cream worked and the nurse was AWESOME! NO TEARS AT ALL! Not even a whimper, she didn't feel a thing. God was looking down on her that day. We will have one more appt. at the end of the year and then we will be done!

We also are coming up on our 1 year anniversaries so be prepared for memory posts in the future.

Also, we have gone almost 2 weeks with no potty accidents and she has been dry during nap time for almost a week now and only 1 night time accident in the last week. I think next week I will ditch the diapers during nap time and we will see during night! So proud of her, once she got it, she got it.Randy, Denise, Camden and Dasha Densonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15166800390054077734noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-57643337199277284.post-12054997372916021012012-10-01T19:01:00.002-05:002012-10-01T19:01:58.564-05:00Diary of a bad Blogger! It would start with some excuses, a tale or two of why I haven't able to blog, and there are some, but overall I just haven't felt the urge to blog, and not a lot has been going on to talk about and share.

Just a quick recap of the past month, the kids LOVE school, I am talking LOVE in all CAPS, jumping up and down in the morning with excitement love school. Camden has improved so much in the past month it is astounding. Dasha also is doing really well, she love to show me circle, and other things that she is learning. I am taking full advantage of my 5 hours a day that they are both gone on Tuesdays and Thursdays to get homework done and get caught up on the house. It is in need of some serious TLC.

This past weekend the kids, dog and I loaded up the car to head down to Wichita for a family get-together and air show. This was probably the last time that I will sleep at my childhood home as my parents are moving in 3 months and retiring down at the lake. The majority of my extended family have never met Dasha so it was a perfect time for a party!
